Mentor. Inspire. Create.

Empowered Black Girls is a program by Black Women Connect Vancouver for Black girls in the Vancouver lower mainland area of British Columbia between grades 8 -12. The community was centered to foster personal growth, empowerment, and positive self-identity, while addressing the unique challenges and opportunities that Black girls face. All Empowered Black Girl programs aim to create a safe and nurturing environment where participants can thrive and reach their full potential.

Mission

To inspire and empower young Black girls to become high-achieving leaders.

The Experience

Participating mentees will create a message using traditional media for their community, raising awareness of an issue affecting Black girls and provide a solution. Mentors from the media, including TV, radio, print and social media will help mentees refine their message and get the green light from media platforms to air or publish their presentations and articles.

1:1 Mentorship

Empowered Black Girl will involve an intentional focus on interpersonal relationships and incorporate the core elements of effective youth mentoring relationships.

Mentor(s) with greater experience offering guidance intended to facilitate growth and development of mentees, and development of an emotional bond between mentor and mentees.

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.”
